The Ugly Duckling

Public Event

Thursday, Mar. 28, 2019

On Thursday, March 28, 2019, the Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center will present a free performance of The Ugly Duckling by Appalachian Young People’s Theatre.

While the performance is free for all ages, guests will have the option of purchasing a kid friendly meal for $5 per person. The meal will include chicken tenders, macaroni, fruit, beverage, and a cookie for dessert.

Purchase of the meal is optional and guests are welcome to attend the free performance without participating in the dinner option.

The performance will be held at the Center’s Educational Complex (70 Hiddenite Church Road in Alexander County).

The optional meal will begin at 6:00pm and the performance will begin at 6:30pm.

Reservations for this free event are encouraged for planning purposes although walk in audience members will be accepted.

The Appalachian Young People’s Theatre will present their own unique take on the time-honored tale of The Ugly Duckling. In a comfortable, cozy campsite filled with shadows and stories, one little, well actually rather big, duckling is learning to navigate the waterways of life.

Discovering who you truly are challenges everyone, but especially The Ugly Duckling. This brand new adaptation written by Larry and Vivian Snipes puts the familiar story in a completely new light – with a special twist.

Although the show is most appropriate for audiences in grades K-6, everyone is welcome.

This free, live theatrical performance is made possible through the generous funding of the Sharpe Chair of Fine and Applied Arts of Appalachian State University. The Sharpe Chair was established by the late R.Y. and Eileen Lackey Sharpe, the founders of the Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center. The Ugly Duckling is directed by Teresa Lee and is coordinated by Jody Servon, current Sharpe Chair holder at Appalachian State University.
