An exciting day of innovative, hands on arts and heritage activities is planned for the Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Centers 34th Annual Hiddenite Celebration of the Arts. Celebration of the Arts is a free admission street festival that features unique, family friendly activities for all ages.
Celebration of the Arts offers the opportunity to shop for fine arts, handmade crafts and jewelry, fiber arts, and regional pottery; the festival also includes commercial vendors and information booths from local businesses and civic organizations.
In the Celebration Folk Life Pavilion, visitors will experience hands on demonstrations in folkways such as butter churning, blacksmiting, and weaving, just to name a few.
Celebration of the Arts offers four live performance stages featuring diverse offerings in music and dance. The festival line up will include country and bluegrass music, clogging and Irish step dance, folk and gospel music, jazz and modern dance.
The Center is proud to announce the return of Appalachian State Universitys Steely Pan Steel Drum Band. Now under the direction of Byron Hedgepeth, Steely Pan will perform at 12:00noon on the Baptist Church stage.
Centered on the lawn of the Lucas Mansion, Celebrations popular Art in Action area will provide hands on activities that include a poetry wall sponsored by Teen Poetry Happens, a free make and take craft station sponsored by ReSource Warehouse of Hickory, and large scale chalk board canvases for public art. New features for Art in Action include a Living Masterpiece Gallery from the Alexander Central High School Art Department and Art Club and site-specific art installations by Rogelio Calvo and Nicholas Sorlien of the Iredell Arts Council and Mitchell Community College Department of Art. All Art in Action activities are free to enjoy.
