The Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center will host a benefit concert, featuring The Catawba Bluegrass Band, to raise funds for the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program in Alexander County.
JAM is an after-school program for children in grades 4 8 and beyond that introduces music through small group instruction on instruments common to the Appalachian region, such as fiddle, banjo and guitar. Each JAM program is individually operated and funded.
All donations raised during the concert will help pay for Alexander JAM student tuition, music, and operating costs. The Junior Appalachian Musicians program offers students an opportunity to experience community through the joy of participating in traditional mountain music together. JAMs mission is to provide communities the tools and support they need to teach children to play and dance to traditional old time and bluegrass music.
The Alexander JAM benefit concert will feature traditional bluegrass and traditional bluegrass gospel music by The Catawba Bluegrass Band The Catawba Bluegrass Band features Joe Price on Banjo, Louis Carpenter on Bass, Doug Davis on Guitar and Vocals, Linzey Ham on Guitar, Mandolin, and Vocals.
Also featured during the concert will be students from the stellar JAM program in Watauga County, which has been in operation for many years. Concessions will be available for sale during the concert.
