The Hiddenite Arts & Heritage Center, in partnership with the Alexander County Branch NAACP, is proud to announce an exciting new Lucas Mansion Gallery exhibit honoring the life and legacy of the late Dr. Maya Angelou. �Daring to Soar: The Art of Courage� is a multimedia exhibit that challenges artists from across the North Carolina to create original pieces of visual art inspired by the written or spoken words of Dr. Angelou.

This unique exhibit features professional artists from across the state of NC as well as student work from the Alexander County Schools and collaborations from area churches. Artists were asked to choose their favorite quotation from Dr. Angelou�s vast body of work and then create a piece of visual art that interprets the meaning or inspiration drawn from the written or spoken word. From painted canvas to sculpture, found object installation to paper collage, this exhibit encourages diverse artistic expression. Daring to Soar unites the literary and visual arts while bridging the gap between artistic mediums.

Through her work in the arts and through her example of courageous living, Dr. Maya Angelou has inspired millions of people around the world to dare, to let their talents soar, to rise above challenge, and to create with abandon. In this exhibit, the Center and the NAACP create a space for art to do what art does best � tell stories, ask questions, inspire new ideas, and uplift the human spirit.
