Handmade Holiday Workshops

In preparation for the holiday season, The Hiddenite Center is pleased to announce the return of their Handmade Holiday Workshops, Saturday, November 29, 2014. This fun and interactive workshop series will include classes in chair caning and Christmas wreath making. Classes will be held at The Hiddenite Center�s Educational Complex (70 Hiddenite Church Road in Alexander County).

The Christmas wreath-making workshop will be lead by Allison Houchins, Hiddenite Center Director of Education. Houchins will instruct the class in working with fresh greenery to create a large wreath for holiday home d�cor. Participants will learn the basics of wreath construction, design elements, and use of floral tools. At the end of the workshop, participants will complete and take home a large, finished, fresh green wreath. The Christmas wreath-making class will be held at the Educational Complex from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon. Cost for attending the class is $24 for Hiddenite Center members and $28 for the public. This includes all materials, instruction, and tax. Class size is limited to twelve participants. Pre-paid registration is required for all participants and may be made by calling (828) 632-6966.Tuition is non-refundable but may be transferred in case of cancellation by student. Participants are asked to bring shrub cutters (hand size) and gardening or work gloves if desired. Workshop participants will enjoy hot cider and cookies as they fellowship and create a beautiful holiday wreath.

The chair caning workshop will be held at the Educational Complex from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Sam and Donna Frogge of Iredell County will lead this unique holiday class. Each participant will learn the basics of caning and will complete a 16" footstool during the workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring heavy scissors, a spray bottle for water and a towel for use during the class. This is a great opportunity to learn a new craft while creating a unique heirloom gift! Cost for registration in the class is $25 for members of The Hiddenite Center�s Friends program or $30 for the public. Cost includes class instruction, stool frame, and caning supplies. This fun workshop allows participants to create a new family heirloom to treasure or share as a gift. Class size is limited to twelve; prepaid registration is required and may be made by calling (828) 632-6966. Cancelled registrations are non-refundable but may be transferred.
