Mark your calendars for RockyFest 2017, set for Saturday, April 22 at Rocky Face Mountain Recreational Area in Hiddenite. This family-friendly daylong event features 5k/10k/20k trail races, live music, free rock climbing and rappelling sessions, children�s activities, food, arts/crafts vendors, and more. Early registration for the trail races ends April 9 (only $25 for either race), or add $10 to the cost if registering after April 9. The races begin at 8:00 a.m. Free rock climbing and rappelling sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. with online registration required on a first-come, first-served basis. The rest of the festivities run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The DAV Chapter 84 Auxiliary will have a corn hole tournament at 12:00 noon. Entertainment includes the The Slate Mountain Ramblers, Strictly Strings, The Trailblazers, ShadowGrass, Madison Elmore, Danny Wicker, Carolina Express Bluegrass, and the Alexander Junior Appalachian Musicians, along with flatfoot dancer Rodney Sutton. There will also be a picking tent, so bring your instrument and join in the fun. Three inflatables will be available for the children to enjoy free of charge. Bella�s Trackless Train will also take kids for a ride around the walking track (for a fee). Face painting will be available. Food will include BBQ, hot dogs, hamburgers, Chick-fil-A sandwiches, funnel cakes, deep-fried Oreos, shaved ice, kettle corn, boiled peanuts, kabobs, quesadillas, drinks, candy, and more.
