Public Event

Wednesday, Apr. 22, 2015
â–¼

The Annual Explore North Carolina Heritage Fair, one of the Hiddenite Centers most vital educational programs, will offer students in Alexander and Iredell County hands on experience in learning heritage arts and crafts as part of their NC History education. The Heritage Fair will be held at the Hiddenite Centers Educational Complex (70 Hiddenite Church Road) on Wednesday, April 22nd and Thursday, April 23rd and will be open to students in participating Alexander County Public Schools, Home Schools, and to the general public. On Friday, April 24th, the Heritage Fair will travel to Central Elementary School in Iredell County.

The Hiddenite Center is pleased to partner with the Alexander County Schools to provide this unique educational programming for Elementary School students at Stony Point, Hiddenite, Wittenburg, Taylorsville, and Sugar Loaf.

Highly skilled demonstrators and artists will present more than 20 activities such as woodworking, herbal gardening, pottery, basketry, quilting, spinning and weaving, log cabin building, music, and much more. Although Heritage Fair is geared towards 4th graders who are studying NC history, it offers educational fun for all age groups and provides a deeper understanding of regional culture.

The community is invited to join in this celebration of NC History by attending the Heritage Fair on April 22nd or April 23rd. Public admission hours each day are 9 a.m. until 11:30am and 12:30pm until 2:00 p.m. at the Hiddenite Centers Educational Complex (70 Hiddenite Church Road). Admission is $5 per person, $3 for senior adults, and children under 5 are admitted free. Group visits to Heritage Fair are also welcomed; group bookings must be made in advance and may be scheduled by calling Allison Houchins, Hiddenite Center Director of Education, at (828) 632-6966. Both the Hiddenite Center Lucas Mansion and Educational Complex are wheelchair accessible.
